The South Whidbey fastpitch softball team beat Lakewood 12-2 in five innings this week.
Katy Piehler was the winning pitcher. The Falcons scored three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second and five runs in the third, said Falcon coach Don Wood.
“It was a big game for us and showed the maturity of our seniors and the increasing skill set of the younger girls,” the coach said.
The team is now 4-1 in the Cascade Conference.
Allison Wood went 3-for-3 with a grand-slam homer to left center in the third and finished with five RBIs. Melanie Murphy went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Alex Kubeska had a double with one RBI. Nikki Parra went 1-for-2 and threw out a runner trying to steal second base.
On Wednesday, the team won 8-7 over Coupeville, then lost 1-2 to Cedarcrest on Thursday during a makeup game.
