The old Langley High School building may soon be added to a list of local historic properties.

A nomination form has been drafted to present to the South Whidbey School Board to include the 75-year-old school building to Langley’s Register of Historic Places, Larry Cort, city planning director, told the Langley City Council on Tuesday night.

The nomination form was prepared by Seattle historical consultant Mimi Sheridan, who has been working with the city’s volunteer Historic Preservation Commission.

Sheridan was retained by the commission through a $15,000 combined state and county grant to survey 60 potential historic buildings in Langley, and to gather comments from the community.

Cort said that Sheridan’s survey was expected to be completed by next week.

Five properties already have been added to the city’s historic register: the original section of the Langley Library, Langley City Hall, the South Whidbey Historical Museum, the old section of Langley Woodmen Cemetery and the Wylie hospital-birthing house on Edgecliff Drive.
