The Langley City Council has decided to ask voters in November to annex the city into the Sno-Isle Library District.

If the measure is approved by voters — a simple majority is needed — Langley property owners would pay the current property tax levy that is assessed by the library district. The levy is 40 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, so the owner of a $300,000 home would pay an additional $120 each year in property taxes.

Langley currently has a contract for service with Sno-Isle Libraries; the city will pay $44,117 this year. If the city annexes into the library district, the city will no longer pay that amount, though it will still be required to maintain the library building.

Only two cities in the two-county library district have not annexed: Langley and Stanwood.
