It’s been a quiet holiday season for South Whidbey Fire/EMS.

Chief Rusty Palmer said the district was averaging seven calls a day up until Dec. 23. Since then, the district has averaged three a day.

“The last week has actually been really quiet,” Palmer said Wednesday morning. Palmer said the district responded to six calls on Christmas Day, all of which were medical related.

Despite the slow week, the district has still had a busy year. Palmer said the district is approaching 2,400 calls responded to this year, which would be close to a 200-call increase from 2014’s total of 2,263.

“It’s up quite a bit,” Palmer said.
