Democrat Angie Homola increased her lead over incumbent Republican Mac McDowell in the race for the District 2 seat on the Island County Board of Commissioners by 65 votes Friday.
Homola, a political newcomer making her first attempt at elected office, led earlier in the week by 59 votes.
A total of 42,511 ballots have been counted in the race.
County election workers have a rough estimate of approximately 70 votes to count. The next update is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 24.
Homola has 50 percent of the vote. McDowell, a 16-year veteran of the office, has 49.9 percent of the vote.
The election will be certified as official on Nov. 25.
District 1 Commissioner-Elect Helen Price Johnson and Island County Auditor Sheilah Crider will be sworn into office by Island County Superior Court Judge Alan Hancock on Tuesday.
The swearing-in is 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 in Department 1 of the Law & Justice Center in Coupeville.
