The South Whidbey tennis team beat Anacortes 6-1 Wednesday, continuing a streak of victories for the month.
In singles, South Whidbey’s Lindsey Newman won 6-0, 6-1; Natalie Wheeler won
6-1, 6-2 Maya Hough won 6-2, 6-1 and Amanda Brager lost 2-6, 5-7.
In doubles action, Victoria Comfort and Nicole Zalewski won 6-1, 1-6 ,6-2; Shannon Craig and Julia Iversen won 6-3, 6-0 and Jenn Gemkow and Katie Holt won 6-3, 6-3.
“Natalie had probably her best match of the season, playing a very controlled and consistent match,” said Falcon coach Tom Kramer. “Maya returned to her winning ways with a better tactical game.”
Kramer noted that Comfort and Zalewski had two great sets of top tennis, marred by a forgettable set in the middle when both of them went on vacation.
“Shannon and Julia continue to impress after a slow start, while Jenn and Katie had a tough match against Anacortes.”
