LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Price Johnson has good judgment, temperament

Editor, I am writing in behalf of Helen Price Johnson for Island County commissioner, District 1. In the political environment that we are experiencing today, with the vitriol taking the place of reasoned discussion of important issues facing our country, state and local communities, we more than ever need people in elected positions who have demonstrated good judgment and want to solve problems rather than score ideological political points.

Editor,

I am writing in behalf of Helen Price Johnson for Island County commissioner, District 1.

In the political environment that we are experiencing today, with the vitriol taking the place of reasoned discussion of important issues facing our country, state and local communities, we more than ever need people in elected positions who have demonstrated good judgment and want to solve problems rather than score ideological political points. Helen is a problem solver who consistently demonstrates good judgment, good temperament and a willingness to work with members of both political parties to get the job done.

A good example of Helen’s approach to issues is how the future of the Whidbey Island fairgrounds in Langley was addressed. Helen favored the transfer of the fairgrounds property to the Port of South Whidbey and the port’s proposed financing for fairgrounds improvements. However, Helen’s support was contingent on assurances from the port that the new funds would be spent to make improvements to the fairgrounds (not for other port purposes) and that the port gain the support of the fair association and 4-H groups for the proposed changes.

Through Helen’s steady hand, working with her fellow commissioners, the port and the community, all the parties came to support the port’s proposals. The voters of South Whidbey subsequently voted for the transfer of ownership of the fairgrounds and the financing for fairgrounds improvements. This is the way government should work.

Your vote is vital. Vote for Helen Price Johnson Island County commissioner, District 1.
