Big pumpkin carving at Coupeville market

Plus-size pumpkins will be on display for deft hands at the 19th annual Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest on Oct. 11. Held during the last Coupeville Farmers Market of the season, the contest features giant pumpkins, zucchini and any other large or mutant vegetables people want to show off.

Plus-size pumpkins will be on display for deft hands at the 19th annual Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest on Oct. 11.

Held during the last Coupeville Farmers Market of the season, the contest features giant pumpkins, zucchini and any other large or mutant vegetables people want to show off.

Prizes will be awarded for the biggest, prettiest and ugliest pumpkins as well as for the biggest zucchini, along with a few special prizes as well.

Growers are requested to bring their entries at 11 a.m. to the market and weigh-in will begin around noon, right after the HarvestFest Relay Races.
