Falcon Andy Bennett placed first for the South Whidbey varsity boys in the 300-meter hurdles in a blistering 40.88 seconds Saturday.
“I really didn’t think I’d do that well even though the 300 is my specialty,” Bennett said Monday.
A total of 23 schools gathered for the Don Holder Relays, held at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima, for one of the largest annual track and field meets of the year. The South Whidbey boys placed sixth and the girls came in 15th; overall, the Falcons were 11th with 42 points.
Scott Stallman was fourth in the 400-meter race at 52.51.
In the shot put, South Whidbey’s David Monell bested his teammates with a 42 feet, 11.5 inch throw for sixth place. Jackson Engstrom was seventh with 42-05.25.
Reversing roles, Engstrom threw the discus 123-04 for fifth and Monell took seventh with 121-04.
Ramsey O’Brien was 12th in the pole vault at 9-06, and Bennett finished the day with a fifth place in the long jump at 21 feet.
For the South Whidbey girls, McKenzie Walker was third in the 100-meter sprint at 13.28 and sixth in the 400-meters at 1:03.46.
Laura Barrow placed ninth in the 300-meter hurdles at 51:19.
The distance medley relay team of Caroline Habel, Emily Martin, Courtney and Cassie Bosman was ninth in 14:52.74.
Nikki Enters put her shot 30-10 for 11th and took fourth in the discus with a throw of 94-10.
Cayla Calderwood was fourth in two events, the high jump at 4-10 and the long jump with 15.09.
Thursday at 4 p.m., the team welcomes Cedarcrest to Waterman Field.
