Island County Diking District 1 commissioners will meet this week in Freeland.

The meeting will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Freeland Library, 5495 Harbor Ave.

It will be the first meeting of the year; January’s regular meeting was cancelled.

This past week, commission chairman Steve Arnold recommended February’s meeting also be cancelled.

But commissioner John Shepard said he had items for the agenda, including an operating plan for water level in the wetlands and a discussion about how the district will pay for legal expenses.

The district has been sued by a group of district residents unhappy about the recent installation of a $430,000 pump project.
