To the editor:

Helen Price Johnson is serious about protecting the environment. She understands how important wetlands are to our supply of fresh water, for example.

But she’s not anti-building or anti-growth. She is a reasonable moderate, a conservative Democrat.

I have known Helen for 16 years, and in that time she has gone to Coupeville to get building permits many times. She and her husband are in the business of building custom homes. So she is very familiar with Island County building codes and zoning. She has seen the old boy network work to make profits for a few, while laws are ignored.

What I like best about Helen Price Johnson is her unfailing dedication to making government work fairly. She has a wonderful sense of right and wrong and fairness. Helen has served on the South Whidbey School Board for seven years, and her fellow school board members — including my husband — are supporting her campaign.

She sticks up for what is right and gets things done; politely, fairly, openly and efficiently.
