Falcon Will Hallberg posted 44 feet, 5.75 inches in the triple jump to take first place and qualify for the state finals in the first day of action at the District 1 meet in Sultan on Wednesday.
Falcon teammate Cayla Calderwood long-jumped 15-5 for fourth, also good for a berth at state.
Preliminary track events and finals for field events were held on Wednesday; track finals were held Friday.
Falcons who didn’t make the cut — the top four athletes in each event qualify for state — included Sam Lee, who placed ninth in the 1,600-meter distance race; Jackson Engstrom, seventh in shot put; Kyle Simchuck, 16th in the triple jump; Lillianna Stelling, 14th in the 1,600-meters; Angelina Berger, fifth in the discus; and Kelsey Engstrom, eighth in discus.
The South Whidbey girls 100-meter relay team of Grace Swanson, Lennox Bishop, Holly Huey and Ashley Young placed ninth. The 400-meter relay team — Sarah Cepowski, Emily Martin, Stelling and McKenzie Walker — placed 10th.
