South Whidbey School District directors will select members of the board Wednesday to serve roles as chairperson, vice chair-board auditor and legislative representative for the upcoming year.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 in the Community Room at South Whidbey Elementary School.

The annual organizational meeting, as outlined in policy number 1210, is an opportunity for board members to vote for their colleagues to either maintain or change positions.

“It is an opportunity to reorganize,” said Linda Racicot, current board chairwoman. “However, people can indicate their interest in continuing their position because there is a learning curve.”

In order to designate the remaining positions such as Washington Interscholastic Activities Association representative and policy representative, the board may decide to either take a vote or the remaining board members may state their preference.

Also on the agenda is the approval of a number of memoranda including policy number 3210 regarding nondiscrimination, policy number 2336 regarding required observances and policy number 2413 regarding the equivalency credit for career and technical education courses.

The directors will also discuss public records requests which have been submitted to the district, and the proposal to relocate an osprey nest on district property.
