LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Fireworks ban was needed in Island County

Editor,

I saw in The Record last week that a fireworks ban was going to be discussed at the meeting until Commissioner Rick Hannold said that he had changed his mind and would not vote for the ban. He said the reason was his “core values” and the feedback from the community.

This is really strange because everywhere you go people are saying we should have a ban on personal fireworks on Whidbey Island. Rick Hannold doesn’t seem to care if your house burns down. This last July 4 more people stayed home just to make sure their homes and property didn’t burn up. The animals on the island, both the pets and the wildlife, have to suffer for at least three days.

We don’t need someone like Rick Hannold as a commissioner. We need to vote him out and the sooner the better.
