Whidbey Island Center for the Arts will debut a new show, the 88 Keys Piano Club, featuring top pianists hosted by Maureen Girard.
The debut show takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at Zech Hall.
The show will be loosely based on the hit National Public Radio chat and music program “Piano Jazz” with Marian McPartland, according to a recent press release. The release states that it will also glean influence from Girard’s successful House Concert Series, which she has hosted for the past 10 years at her personal 88 Keys Piano Studio in Langley. It featured many friends including Jessica Williams, David Lanz, Claudio Mendez, Karin Kajita and others from the Pacific Northwest and around the world.
Seattle-based pianist Karin Kajita will perform as a guest artist on Jan. 24. Kajita has been a part of the Seattle jazz scene for several years and is the leader of the Karin Kajita Jazz Quintet, according to the press release.
She has also performed for various venues nationwide and internationally, including five tours in Japan and several cruise-line shows for Crystal and Norwegian Cruise Lines.
