LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Writer wasn’t there

Editor,

I just had to respond to the July 31 letter by John Latham with the headline, “Editorial cartoon disgusts.”

Who knew that there was an eyewitness to this attack and shooting in Florida right here in Oak Harbor? Mr. Latham could have saved everyone a lot of grief by running back down to the scene of this killing of a teenage kid by an older and much heavier man armed with a gun.

It’s a good thing this child wasn’t armed with anything but a soda and some Skittles or the confrontation could have turned real ugly.

After reading witness statements it was really surprising that there were no “eyewitnesses” to the killing, according to court testimony. Mr. Latham should have come forward at the time as the only eyewitness.

But I suspect that Mr. Latham was parroting George Zimmerman’s story because only one “eyewitness” survives and one is dead.

I wasn’t too disgusted by the cartoon but am really disgusted by this “eyewitness” account from a person that lives in Oak Harbor and, apparently, Florida at the same time.
