To the editor:
This is in response to “Support clean energy job plan” letter written by John Hurd.
After reading John Hurd’s letter, I pondered for a moment and realized that he does not get it. The clean-energy bill or plan or idea, whatever you want to call it, will be a failure. This is another way of restricting, controlling and taxing the American taxpayer from individuals to businesses until they are broke. Businesses small and large will be required to come under standards, or they will be fined (heavier taxes). Automobile companies who are already bankrupt will be required to build cars that Obama thinks we should be driving. I don’t know if Mr. Hurd has driven across the country. Our nation’s commerce is moved by truckers and rail, and this bill will wipe them out. Manufacturers will be stymied with very strict guidelines and eventually go out of business, creating more layoffs and much higher unemployment.
The clean-energy bill going through Congress at this time is in conjunction with the clean-energy plan in the United Nations. The plan that Obama wants would put greater restrictions on the United States that other developed countries around the world do not have to adhere to. Here is a quote from the bill: “The treaty will reduce carbon emissions from the U.S. and other ‘developed’ countries, while allowing ‘developing’ countries, which include the world’s largest polluter, China, and oil-rich nations like Saudi Arabia, to avoid equal restrictions.”
So Mr. Hurd, the Big Oil companies still win, and the countries who should be restricted will not be. This whole thing is led by socialist countries, and they even stated that this bill cannot be successful unless the United States leads the way. Don’t you see this is Kyoto Treaty II, but they are not calling it that, they want American voters like you to vote for it. Mr. Hurd you live on a real island, not Fantasy Island. Open your eyes.
Everything Obama has touched has failed; President Bush left us with a $550 billion deficit in eight years, President Obama has produced over a $2 trillion deficit (four times greater) in five months.
Call Representative Larsen; tell him NO.
