To the editor:

Regarding the recent article; “Godfather of soup celebrates birthday with cookbook cake.”

On behalf of the Soup Kitchen leaders and the numerous volunteers; we request that a statement that was published on May 5 in the named article be corrected.

The CMA Soup Kitchen leader for Tuesday is Sharon Giberson of nine years. Thursday, the Soup Kitchen Leader is Jean Matheny, also of nine years.

It appeared in the article that Dan Soul has a history of making soup; as he does make soup for the Tuesday Soup Kitchen working side by side with several other volunteers under Sharon’s leadership. He does not contribute to the Thursday Soup Kitchen as the article states. Additionally, the article gives him the title of the “Godfather” of the Soup Kitchen, which infers his leadership role.

In all fairness to the leaders and volunteers, we ask that a subsequent article be published to acknowledge the hard working individuals who volunteer each week.  In closing, please extend our thank you for the numerous donations that are received from the community.
