The South Whidbey Tilth Farmers Market presents the second garment-making step in its Sheep to Shawl series this summer from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, June 10.

Sheep fleeces, shorn in May, are carefully washed and sorted, removing dirt, dust and some of the lanolin from the wool fiber. The clean fleece is spread out in the sun to dry to await the next Sheep to Shawl event, July 8.

There will also be live music performed by Nick Toombs on six and 12- string acoustic guitars in the American Primitive/Takoma fingerpicking style. The market, located at 2812 Thompson Road, off Highway 525, offers fresh farm produce and eggs, hot food to eat or take home, vegetable and fruit starts for the home garden, and unique handmade items and works of art.

There is a lot for children to do while parents shop, such as playing in the sandbox or getting their faces painted by Calyx Community Arts School’s Shanna Elizabeth.

Farmers at the market accept SNAP cards and Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupons.
