To the editor:
The annual Whidbey Island Nourishes Vegissimo fundraiser was a success this year and I would like to extend a hardy “thank you” to our community at large.
First of all big thanks to Ronlyn Schwartz, Eric Swanson, Tricia Beckner, the Langley Community Garden and the Good Cheer Food Bank garden that allowed people to learn from their years of growing vegetables and fruit in the Pacific Northwest.
And thank you to all who bought tour tickets as well as those who attended our fabulous dinner and auction. We appreciate your participation so much. The South Whidbey businesses were so supportive in donating items for our auction. Puget Sound Energy and Whidbey Island Bank generously helped by sponsoring the event.
Alf and Shirley Collins opened their gorgeous gardens for the evening portion of the event and a number of talented folks entertained us during the dinner. Keith Mack was our lively emcee and auctioneer. Also heartfelt thanks to all those that donate to Whidbey Island Nourishes who can’t make the events.
It is through this fundraiser and other appeals that we finance all the nutritious foods that go into the lunches we make for children in need on South Whidbey.
