Big farewell for LMS’s ‘Boston Rod’

It was a mob scene outside Langley Middle School last week, as hundreds of students formed a human chair for principal Rod Merrell to run through. Merrell was getting set to leave Whidbey to run in the legendary 114th Boston Marathon in Massachusetts.

Merrell finished the 26.2-mile course in a respectable time of 3 hours, 30 minutes, 50 seconds. The winner, Kenya’s Robert Cheruiyot, finished in a marathon-record time of 2:05.52.
