Kathleen Frugé-Brown’s work adds color to Schouten Gallery

The Rob Schouten Gallery will present “Brambles, Brush & Beauty,” new oil paintings by noted en plein air artist Kathleen Frugé-Brown this month.

The exhibit opens Aug. 7 and runs through Aug. 31 at Greenbank Farm.

Frugé-Brown is one of the region’s most talented plein air painters, according to a recent news release.

“I like painting things that are challenging. In nature everything is always moving — the water, the leaves, the sun. I’ll look at a scene and think, ‘How could I possibly paint that?’ ” said Frugé-Brown, in the release.

“Typically, what I enjoy painting has a lot of layers. I like to look past the stuff on the surface to find what is hidden — looking past the weeds to see the foliage, looking past the foliage to discover the branches,” she add.

An artist reception for Frugé-Brown will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 during Greenbank Farm’s First Friday at the Farm.

Whether creating a public commission or working on a more intimate oil painting, she brings a sense of purpose and passion to her work which awakens in viewers the feeling of connection and wholeness that she feels while painting outside.

Frugé-Brown adds, “My hope is to share that with others, through paintings that invite viewers into a special place and moment, and through public art that strengthens and celebrates viewers’ connection to their own landscape.”
