State regulators have awarded the Langley Wastewater Treatment Plant the 2011 Wastewater Treatment Plant Outstanding Performance award.

The state Department of Ecology evaluated 300 plants across Washington on a range of issues, from compliance with effluent limits, monitoring and reporting to spill prevention planning, pretreatment and overall operational demands.

According to a letter to city officials by Kelly Susewind, a water quality program manager for the agency, Langley was one of 108 plants that achieved full compliance with its federal permit.

“It takes diligent operators and a strong management team, working effectively together, to achieve this level of compliance,” Susewind wrote.

Langley Mayor Larry Kwarsick said the kudos go to Utilities Supervisor Randi Perry, who is expected to be honored with the achievement before the City Council later this month.
