Marie Brandt, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep Dec. 8, 2007 at Careage of Whidbey Nursing Home in Coupeville.
She was born to Walter and Mary Ann Davis in Rosiclair, Ill. in 1911.
Marie was a school teacher and worked in the Elgin Watch Factory during World War II. She married Alberic P. Brandt while he was serving in the Army.
They were transferred to Auburn, where they had two daughters. The family moved to Edmonds after Alberic got out of the service.
The family started a restaurant business well known as Al’s Bus, then later Al’s Diner, located on the Edmonds waterfront. Marie was a strong manager and organizer.
She was active in the Lady Elks, the Lions Club and a member of the United Methodist Church.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Alberic; two daughters, Mary Ann Marcus from Greenbank, and Patricia Westling of Clinton; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to your favorite charity or to Good Cheer Food Bank of Langley.
