Robert Brodie, Oak Harbor resident died Nov 25, 2012 in Aptos, Calif. with his children James and Karen by his side, after a painful bout with blood cancer. He was 88 years old.
Robert was born in Amsterdam, NY, served in the Army in WWII and attended prestigious Ivy League colleges after the War, graduating from Dartmouth College. He married Joyce and they set off for Palo Alto, Calif. so Robert could complete his MA at Stanford University. He chose a career in teaching, settling in the Bay Area, raising 3 children.
The marriage ended in divorce; he found Dorothy in the early 80’s and they struck out for a new start on Whidbey Island. They built a house in Langley and then another and moved to Oak Harbor in 2006. They enjoyed a happy life together until her death in 2009. Robert admirably cared for Dorothy in their home, for several years, as she struggled with dementia and other serious health issues.
Robert was known as a caring, loving man who carried much wisdom. He took the time to give a compliment and acknowledge a kindness. He was loved by his friends in Oak Harbor and is sorely missed by all he touched.
