Haldor Knutsen

Haldor “Kris” Knutsen passed away March 10, 2004, at his home in Hemet, Calif.

Mr. Knutsen was born in Grimstad, Norway, on Sept. 13, 1929. He came to the United States in 1940, settling in Washington where he became a citizen in Seattle. He moved sometime later with his family to Whidbey Island and became a prominent member of the community.

He was a two-year commander of the American Legion Post 141 and a member of American Legion Post 408, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7482 and the Eagles Aerie in Lynnwood.

He served in Vietnam with the Merchant Marines. He worked for Washington State Ferries, retiring as a chief engineer after 15 years. He loved fishing and cooking and hosted the tastiest Norwegian “Krumpa” parties on South Whidbey.

He is survived by his wife, Venita, of Hemet, Calif; sons Gary of Seattle, Tom of South Whidbey; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

At his request, no funeral or memorial services will be held.
