Donald Richard “Bert” Harttlet passed away at home surrounded by his family.
Bert was born Jan. 5, 1938 in San Francisco, Calif. He had three children with his first wife; Donny, Debbie and Billy. He met his second wife, Bonnie, in 1975 and they were married in Langley in 1979.
He helped raise Bonnie’s three children, Rob, Ann and Bill Roane. They had one child together, Breanna Dawn Hartlett, and he loved traveling with her. They moved to Honeymoon Lake after Breanna was born in 1986, where he passed away.
Bert had a tugboat and became a crab fisherman until 1996, then helped his wife Bonnie with their grounds maintenance business.
After Bert’s prognosis of lung cancer five weeks ago, he wanted a big party with his favorite foods and friends. The clubhouse was filled to the rafters with family and friends saying their final good-byes, with many tears all around, especially when Kate Smith sang him his favorite song, “Blue Bayou.”
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, four children, three stepchildren, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
That twinkle in his eye will be dearly missed.
Private arrangements have been made with Visser Funeral Home.
