Jean MacLeod Davis

Jean’s life ended peacefully on Dec. 5, 2015 due to natural causes.

She was born on June 2, 1923, to August and Gladys MacLeod of Wilmington and Cape Cod, Mass.

She kept strong attachments to New England and never ceased to feel at home on beaches.

Jean was a 1945 graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Mass., with a major in child development and psychology.

She married the late Laird Peterson in 1947 and settled in Seattle. Jean taught in Massachusetts, Seattle and at the University of Washington Pilot School. She completed studies at the Seattle Institute for Psychoanalysis and had a private practice as a family therapist until 2001. Jean enjoyed associations with Smith College Club, Women’s University Club of Seattle and St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church.

Family gatherings on Cape Cod, Hood Canal and Whidbey Island were times of great joy. She gave us intangible gifts of finding the artistry in everything, the spirit of others and the strength in ourselves.

She leaves her daughters, Susan Amoss of Salt Lake City and Karen Peterson of Bellevue; her grandchildren, Hilary Gibbons (Patrick) and their children Sarah and Jack, and John Amoss of Salt Lake City; Tom (Margaux) Erler and Mark Erler of Seattle. She leaves her sister, Isabel Walker of Palo Alto, Calif. and her brother, Duncan MacLeod of Wilmington, Mass., and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, on Whidbey Island at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, 5217 S. Honeymoon Bay Road in Freeland.
