Olive Gaylord Grubb

Olive Gaylord Grubb, 87, died July 30, 2003, at Careage of Whidbey.

She was born Dec. 26, 1915, in Weiser, Idaho, to Palmer B. and Leona Myrtle Burley Gaylord. She moved to Whidbey Island with her family at the age of 7. They settled in the Maxwelton area and Maxwelton was her home for the rest of her life. She attended Intervale Grade School and graduated from Langley High School.

On Nov. 8, 1941, she married Floyd E. Grubb in Maxwelton. They enjoyed spending time together. They attended church together, first at the Woodland Hall Sunday School in Maxwelton and later at Langley United Methodist Church. They traveled together and were active members of the Good Sam Club in which they served as co-presidents and they were honored as the Good Sam Club Couple of the Year. In 1994 they were chosen grand marshals of the Maxwelton Fourth of July parade.

She was an assistant librarian in the South Whidbey School District for more than 10 years. She served as a Camp Fire Girls leader and had been active in the Maxwelton Community Club. She also was active in the Whidbey General Hospital Guild and was a member of United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband in July 2001; two sisters, Villa Crawford and Susan Kinske Gould; and a brother, Palmer Gaylard.

She is survived by a son, Richard Grubb, and his wife, Mary Louise Rose Grubb, of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Beth Meador of Auburn and Alice Grubb of Federal Way; five grandchildren, Richard Grubb Jr. and his wife, JoAnn, David Grubb and his wife, Marti, Paul Grubb, S.J., Robert Grubb and his wife, Lori, and Jennifer McKinley and her husband, Eric; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew Grubb, Jonathan Grubb, Madelein Grubb, Zachary Grubb, Meredith Grubb, Nicholas Grubb and Jack Oliver Grubb; and a sister, Mable Wildes of Seattle.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bayview Cemetery, Langley. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Langley United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Vergin officiating.

Memorials may be made to Langley United Methodist Church or to Children’s Hospital.
