Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Griffin, 77, died Dec. 25, 2003.
She was born May 29, 1926, in Spokane, the youngest of seven children born to Lebanese immigrants Joseph and Jamilia Obde. She graduated from Holy Names Academy and attended two years of business college. On Nov. 4, 1950, she married Matthew D. “Dan” Griffin. In 1956 they moved to Western Washington, where they raised six children and maintained residences in Everett and on Whidbey Island.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who touched the hearts of all she met with her sparkling eyes and spontaneous smile. She loved to cook and took delight in serving family and friends with the finest traditional Lebanese foods. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She was “Sittee” to 10 wonderful grandchildren, who remember spending countless hours playing cards, watching movies and living in the warmth of her love at all hours of the day and night.
Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by Matthew D. Griffin, her husband of 45 years; four brothers, Fred Obde, Edward Obde, Navy Obde, Jimmy Obde; and a sister, Rosie.
She is survived by a brother, George Obde, Spokane; four daughters, Jamilia George of Anchorage, Alaska, Dana Burns and her husband, Paul, of Spokane, Jodi Griffin of Clinton, Megan Sterba and her partner, Ray, of Clinton; two sons, Matthew D. Griffin and his partner, Michael, of Everett, and Joseph Griffin and his wife, Patricia, of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A vigil was conducted Tuesday evening at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home, Spokane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Everett.
