Doris Marie Craven Maxwell fought a very courageous battle with cancer and died July 15, 2002, at Pacific Regents in Bellevue.

She was born Dec. 27, 1924, in Weiser, Idaho, to Chester C. and Nettie Packer Craven. Her mother later moved to Boise, where Doris attended school, including two years at Boise State University.

On Sept. 7, 1947, she married Jack Maxwell of Boise. Mrs. Maxwell loved life, and had never met a stranger. She was very active in Welcome Wagon, the Seattle Assistance League, Bellevue Women’s Club and Kirkland Senior Center. She loved playing bridge and belonged to several bridge groups in Bellevue and Kirkland. Second to bridge was the love of travel, and spending the winter months in Palm Springs.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nettie DeGrange; a sister, Maxine Arnold; and a very close aunt, Marie Asbury.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Maxwell of Lagoon Point; a son, Gary Maxwell of Anchorage, Alaska; three daughters, Cheryl Maxwell of Bonney Lake, Debbie Maxwell of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Carol Ferguson of Woodinville; four grandchildren, Danielle Ferguson of Woodinville, Cameron Risbell of Bonney Lake, and Brittany and Brandon Maxwell of Ketchikan, Alaska; a cousin, Robert Packer of Palm Springs and Whidbey Island; and sons-in-law Dan Ferguson and Riley Risbell.

She will be greatly missed by her beloved family and multitude of friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. July 25 at Unity Church, 16330 NE Fourth St., Bellevue. She had requested interment at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral Columbarium, Boise.
