Daisy “Ruth” Desdier passed on peacefully at home with her loved ones by her side on Aug. 4, 2009.
She was born Sept. 4, 1928 in Beirne, Ark. to Lester and Daisy Shaver, the youngest of their three children. She met her husband of 57 years, Norman Desdier, in Amarillo, Texas in 1951.
Six months later, they were married and moved to California to begin their new life. They had three children, Norma, Mark and Michelle. In 1967 they moved to Whidbey Island and in 1970 purchased and operated the Dog House Tavern for
10 years. These were some of the happiest times of her life as she loved the people and activity of the downtown Langley location.
Ruth was an active member of the Useless Bay Golf Club Woman’s Association for many years. She enjoyed playing golf and cards, shopping, collecting and especially her friends and family. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her devotion to her family.
She is survived by her husband Norman, brother Lester (Velma) Shaver, daughter Norma (Ken) Cline, son Mark Desdier, daughter Michelle (Andy) Leitz, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be held at a time and place to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Cheer Food Bank in Bayview.
