Gram, Phoebe Katherine Stonebridge and Gramp, Harold William “Pod” Stonebridge passed away in their 98th year. They were born six weeks apart in 1915 and died three weeks apart in 2014.

Neither went quietly, both fought to the end. Pod even saying at one point that he would outlive Phoebe so he could get the checkbook back. They were married for 77 years.

Phoebe was born on Sept. 28, 1915, to Bert and Blanche (Swenson) Hoye in Issaquah, Wash. Pod was born on Nov. 6, 1915, to George E. and Mary Margaret ‘Mamie’ (Jones) Stonebridge in Ravensdale, Wash. Pod and Phoebe met in the fifth grade and graduated from Issaquah High School in 1934. They were married in 1937. They lived in Issaquah and at Lake Sammamish for 50 years. They spent two years at the University of Washington as house parents and in the late ’60s moved to a farm near Freeland, Wash.

Phoebe was the family glue. Raising her three children and instrumental in helping to raise her seven grandchildren, each of whom she spent extended time with as teens and preteens.

Pod was the family helper. Anyone with a problem or project, Gramp would be there.

Pod and Phoebe are survived by their children Jim Stonebridge and wife Kathleen Boeve, grandchildren Traci Stonebridge Baumer and her husband Martin and great-grandchildren Alex and Dylan; Lisa Stonebridge and her husband Walter Woodland and step-great-grandchildren Brittney, Erin (Matt), Harley and Riley; Jerry Stonebridge and wife Suzi, grandchildren Ted Stonebridge and wife Lora and great-grandsons Paul and Bret; Jeff Stonebridge and wife Sheila and great-grandchildren Jerome, Ashley and husband Nathen Frye and Skylar, and great-great-grandchildren Andrew and Hope; Janice Sipe and husband Darren and grandchildren Travis Butcher and wife Kristine and step-great-grandchildren Kamron and Morgan; Roslyn Magnuson and husband Jeff and great-grandchildren Jordyn and Teagen and step-great-grandson Jake, and Jake Butcher and Jamie Seethe.

Their life was their family. We are having a small family memorial in April to count our blessings.
