Phyllis G. Haman was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Spokane to Forrest and Hazel Garrett.
After a long illness, she died on Mothers’ Day, May 13, 2007 at her home in Langley with her family at her bedside.
Phyllis and her husband of nearly 59 years, Ray Haman, have lived in Walla Walla, Lexington, Va., Seattle, Mercer Island and Medina before retiring in 1991 to their home in Langley on Whidbey Island.
Phyllis enjoyed reading, gardening and being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She also engaged in a number of community and church activities. She was a past president of Women of Emmanuel (Episcopal Church, Mercer Island), Friends of the Langley Library and Episcopal Church Women (St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods, Whidbey Island).
Phyllis also was an active member of the South Whidbey Garden Club and served on the governing boards of the South Whidbey Historical Society, the Friends of the Langley Woodmen Cemetery and the South Whidbey Republican Women’s Club.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Ray; daughter Lorinda; son-in-law Ray Harding; two grandsons and a great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her son Bradley, and her grandson Cory Harding.
Phyllis will be laid to rest at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Langley Woodmen Cemetery on Al Anderson Avenue, Langley. A celebration of her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. that day at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church 5217 S. Honeymoon Bay Road, Freeland.
