Helen Irene Humbert (Thompson), Nov. 2, 1939, to  April 24, 2012.

Helen was born in Seattle, the daughter of Harry J. Thompson and Lillian M. Thompson. She was a teacher in the fullest sense of the word until her last breath. With a witty sense of humor, a fighting spirit, true compassion for everyone and endless wisdom, Helen accepted her time had come after a long battle with cancer.

Helen’s  education included Saint Edwards Elementary, Holy Names Academy, and Seattle University, achieving a Master’s degree in Education. Helen’s spirit ripples through all the lives she touched as a loving wife, caring sister, dependable cousin, aunt, great aunt, dedicated high school teacher, supportive friend and fun-loving woman. 

Helen devoted her career life to teaching, offering guidance and encouragement to high school students in the Kent School District for years. She served as WSBEA (Washington State Business Education Association) president and during her time of service, she was awarded various honors of recognition and dedication. She retired spending time with her husband, Ronald Humbert, eventually moving to Whidbey Island to be close to her family.

During the winter months, Helen followed her heart to the sun-kissed lands of Arizona with her dog Charlie. Making friends where she went (and dishing out nicknames), Helen touched lives and left imprints from coast to coast. An all-around classy lady who genuinely cared for others, she was focused and decisive yet always up for a good laugh!

Helen will be deeply missed and your spirit will live on by the abundance of stories that leave laughter echoing through our hearts. 

Services will be held on May 19, 2012, at noon at Saint Hubert’s Catholic Church, 804 Third Street, Langley, followed by a celebration of Helen’s life at Freeland Hall on Holmes Harbor, 1515 Shoreview Drive, Freeland, starting at 1:30 p.m. for all friends and family.
