Margaret Alice “Margie” Engstrom, 80, died Dec. 3, 2002, at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville.
She was born May 2, 1922, in Seattle, one of two daughters of William H. Schafer and Mary A. Rogers. She grew up on the Schafer Ranch near Whitlash, Mont., and received her education in Chester, graduating from Chester High School in 1939. Margie worked at the courthouse in Chester for several years before moving to Seattle, where she was employed as a secretary in the shipyards.
She married Norman W. Engstrom in 1951. The couple lived in Seattle and Bellevue until their retirement in 1984, when they moved to Whidbey Island.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Norman Engstrom of Whidbey Island; two daughters, Eleanor Engstrom of Modesto, Calif., and Carrie Engstrom of Sammamish; a son, Mark Engstrom and wife, Kathy, of Chester, Mont.; five grandchildren; a sister, Lois Brauer of Sammamish; and several nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Robert Brauer.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 9 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Chester. Burial will follow at the Whitlash Cemetery north of Chester. Arrangements by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester.
