Mary E. Stoll, also knows as “Sport,” “Spot” or “Mary Ice Cream,” died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 after a brief but intense illness.

She knitted, and quilted, and created treasures for all of our homes that we will cherish forever. She loved her animals and hated hugs … though she learned to tolerate them from her many friends. She played wonderful tricks and had an endless supply of earthy jokes.

She traveled, she paddled, jumped out of airplanes, was an entrepreneur and made the best ice cream ever!

She survived a bad parachute, breast cancer and M.S. Lung cancer finally took her away from all of us who love and miss her dearly.

She had the worst luck of anyone we’ve ever known and we loved her all the more for it.

She grew up on Whidbey, graduated from Langley High School in 1964, served in the Army, trained as an X-ray tech, worked at Virginia Mason, trained as a draftsman, worked at Boeing, and created the Whidbey Island Ice Cream business with her husband, Mike, who died in late August.

She is survived by her mother, Mary and her brother, Edward, her cat, Toli and dog, Flame.

We hope you packed your knitting needles, Mary. You’ve never been able to be idle, and were happiest doing things for others.
