Robert Westley Fridell, 81, died March 27, 2003, at his home in Freeland.

He was born July 1, 1921, in Seattle to George W. and Mabel M. (Peters) Fridell.

Mr. Fridell enlisted in the Army in 1943 and was a sergeant during World War II. In 1951 he was honorably discharged. While in Germany he met Helgard G. Poenitzsch. They were married on July 5, 1948, in Grafenwoehr, Germany.

Mr. Fridell worked in the aerospace industry for many years, most of that with the Boeing Co. He was a member of the Air Force Association and the 69th Infantry Division.

He is survived by his wife, Helgard “Mausi” Fridell of Freeland; a daughter, Christine Cunningham; a son, Wes Fridell, and his wife, Joan; six grandchildren, Jacki, Jamie, Joe, Stefan, Larisa and Angela; and eight great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held. Remembrances may be made to the Whidbey General Hospital Re-Hab Center. Arrangements are by Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
