A two car collision on Highway 525 and Useless Bay Avenue was the first of two wrecks that caused traffic delays on the highway Tuesday afternoon. The second occurred shortly after on Highway 525 and Marshview Avenue.
The two drivers in the Useless Bay wreck were transported to WhidbeyHealth, but South Whidbey Fire/EMS Deputy Chief Mike Cotton said the sustained injuries didn’t appear to be serious. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Of the two drivers involved in the Marshview wreck, one was transported to WhidbeyHealth with minor injuries.
The Useless Bay collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. when a northbound vehicle was said to have hit a southbound car after it attempted a left turn onto Useless Bay Avenue. The northbound vehicle ended up in a ditch at the intersection and the southbound car stopped on the shoulder of 525.
The accident caused backups on Highway 525 after it was reduced to a single lane for roughly 25 minutes.
The Marshview Avenue accident happened shortly after at 12:45 p.m. A northbound car on Highway 525 was reportedly hit by a southbound vehicle that attempted a left turn onto Marshview Avenue. Responders restricted the flow of traffic to one lane near the site of the wreck, which caused delays for roughly a half hour.
“I think the cause of the wrecks was just the amount of traffic we had Tuesday,” Cotton said. “I don’t see what else could have caused it, because we had clear skies.”
