The Tigers are in a rebuilding year and were no match for the veteran South Whidbey squad, which has lost only one game this year. But the Falcons needed the practice as they head into back-to-back away games next week against their toughest competitors. Next Friday, the Falcons play at Nooksack Valley. Entering last night’s games, they were tied for second in the North Cascades League. Then Saturday they stay in Whatcom County to battle undefeated Lynden Christian, one of the best teams in the state regardless of school size. Coach Nancy Ricketts saw what she wanted to see in the Granite Falls game. The Falcons kept up their intensity by not being outscored by their opponent in any of the four quarters — something they’ve done only one other time this year. “That’s a good sign,” said Ricketts. “We didn’t let up; we stayed focused the entire game.” Seniors Kelsey Ellis, Daylene Waterman and Lindsay Sievers were recorded 18 collective steals — 7, 6, and 5 respectively as they dominated the passing lanes. Another senior, Sierra Tornga, set up shop under the basket as she topped all rebounders with 11, followed by Ellis with 9. The Falcons paraded to the free throw line in the final quarter, again displaying consistent shooting from the stripe. Ellis led the Falcon scorers with 14. Scoring 10 apiece were Waterman and Tornga, while Hilary Wick added 9.
