Piloted on the Southend last year, the contest was open this year to all Island communities, drawing a record 126 entries. The contest, which precedes the Whidbey Island Writers’ Conference March 2-4, is sponsored to promote the joy of writing and the fun of sharing it in the Whidbey Island community.Contest winners are: *Poetry (the most popular category): 1st Place, Barbara Read, Coming to Terms; 2nd, Christina Buyose, Midnight Canoe; 3rd, Jack McPherson, Ask Her to Dance; and tying for 4th, Jackie Griesinger, September Spider and Perry Scott Woodfin, Norway.*Short Fiction: 1st Place, Treva L.
