Playing their best golf of the season so far Monday, the Falcon girl golfers found their shots just in time — just in time to blow every other North Cascades Conference team completely off the course.

After going undefeated in NCC play all year, it came as no surprise that the Falcon girls came out as the winners at Lynden’s Homestead Golf Course.

It was how they did it that was shocking. Sophomore Taryn Langlois shot a 94 to win the meet and to edge her closest competition, who was, coincidentally, also a South Whidbey player. Fellow sophomore Hallie Mansfield took the runner-up placing behind Langlois, coming in with just six strokes more.

Close behind was sophomore Jennifer Pan, who was fourth with a 103-stroke day, Adrienne Hawley in sixth with a 104, and senior Maria Zontine, finishing seventh with a 109.

Their combined score of 510 over 18 holes crushed meet runner up Meridian by more than 70 strokes. That team placed second in the NCC last year.

Langlois, who walked away from the meet with her first championship trophy, said she had a great day on the course. She parred three holes and avoided any major “blowups” on the others.

“I was playing well,” she said.

The team got a warmup for the meet last week at the 15-way Burlington Invitational on April 22 at Skagit Valley Golf and Country Club. As the only 2A squad in a field of 4A and 3A teams, the Falcons managed fourth overall behind champion Bellingham, followed by Sequim and West Valley.

Contributing to a team score of 429 were Langlois with a 92 for 18 holes. She placed fifth overall in the meet. Zontine shot at 113 and Pan a 121. At nine holes, Adrienne Hawley shot a 51 and placed third among individuals. Mansfield was close behind with a 52 for fourth place..

Lauren Ressler from Bellingham was the meet medalist with a score of 78 for 18 holes.
