Woman killed in Highway 525 crash

A Greenbank woman was killed in a three-car accident Monday evening on Highway 525 at the intersection of Mutiny Bay Road. Karen Gervais, 47, of Greenbank died in the crash, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Randi Shelton, 35, of Hillsboro, Ore. was driving south on Highway 525 just after 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22 when she crossed the center line in her 2004 Dodge Durango and hit Gervais’ Toyota van, according to the State Patrol.

Shelton’s vehicle continued south and hit a 1989 Dodge van driven by Dale Studeman.

Studeman, 50, of Puyallup, was not injured in the accident.

Shelton, who was injured, was transported to Whidbey General Hospital and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

State Patrol troopers at the scene determined that Shelton was driving under the influence of alcohol. The case has been labeled a vehicular homicide by the Washington State Patrol and a DUI.

Gervais, a Ph.D., was a consulting psychologist and writer who specialized in mental and physical health issues. She was also involved in the community, and recently served on the Coupeville School District’s Recognition of Education Specifications Steering Committee. The committee was involved with preliminary preparations for the building of Coupeville’s new high school.
