Golfers still trying to put it all together

"Falcon golf coach Mick Heggenes knows his boys can turn in some exceptional rounds, but he's still waiting to see it happen this season."

“Falcon golf coach Mick Heggenes knows his boys can turn in some exceptional rounds, but he’s still waiting to see it happen this season. We didn’t shoot poorly, but there were no outstanding performances, Heggenes said, explaining a league loss to Lynden Christian Tuesday at Useless Bay.Any home course advantage failed to materialize for the Falcons, who lost by six strokes at 220-214.Our best guys are shooting bogey or a little better, Heggenes said. We’re better than that.In the par 35 nine holes, the top South Whidbey scorer was Charlie Bass with a 41 — only one stroke behind Lynden’s medalist. Andy Heintz was number two with a 41, also only a stroke behind his Lynden counterpart. The other three Falcon scorers were Alex Osenbach with a 45, Bryce Hansen 45, and Dorian Sidhu 46.We have Lynden Christian two more times and we can do 210 or less, Heggenes said. He’s confident his players will come around — it’s only a matter of time. Alex, Andy and Charlie are just waiting to break out, he said.Earlier in the week the JV team took on Lake Stevens at Battle Creek. Leading the Falcons were Chuck Applebee with a 45 and Kevin Carter with 46. Either could move up to varsity if they keep improving, Heggenes said. They’ve got some people pushing them, he said, referring to the varsity squad.”
