Friends host Day Before Mother’s Day Plant Sale

Does the bumper sticker on your mother’s car say “I’d rather be digging?” Does the mother of your children go ga-ga over fresh plants for her garden? If that’s the case then the Day Before Mother’s Day Plant Sale at the Tilth Farmers Market is the place to find her the perfect Mom’s Day gift.

If that’s the case then the Day Before Mother’s Day Plant Sale at the Tilth Farmers Market is the place to find her the perfect Mom’s Day gift.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 you’ll be able to please even the most particular gardener moms with a selection from a variety of healthy ornamentals, specialty and native plants.

The generosity of the many avid gardeners of South Whidbey, as well as several island nurseries, has made this a one-of-a-kind sale with hundreds of plants available; many of them special plants from award-winning private gardens.

Some of South Whidbey’s most creative gardeners and landscapers will be available to help you select the plant that’s right for you or your mom. There will also be an array of terra cotta pots available for those who would like help choosing just the right blossoms and greenery for a special arrangement just for her.

Not only will you be able to rejuvenate the garden of the mother of your choice but all proceeds from the Day Before Mother’s Day Plant Sale support the Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund (FoF).

FoF is a nonprofit community-funded medical safety net that offers financial help to South Whidbey residents with uncovered health-related expenses. FoF helps with doctor visits, lab work, screening exams, hospital payments, medications, emergency dental work and ferry fares to medical treatment.

Through the generosity of the people of South Whidbey, FoF is able to help neighbors meet their medical needs, making direct payments on their behalf up to an annual limit per individual.

In 2006, FoF served 251 patients, contributing $67,000 to their medical expenses.

During the sale, snacks and refreshments will be available at the market’s Laughing Cat Cafe, as well as an abundance of fresh organic produce from local farmers, and fine crafts from local artisans.

Local folk musicians Joanne Rouse and Steve Showell will be on hand with their guitar and mandolin.

The Tilth Farmers Market is located just off Highway 525 at Thompson Road.
