The Island County Historical Society Board of Trustees has appointed Gabrielle Thurman as the new museum director, effective Jan. 1.
Thurman received her education in Oklahoma and taught at St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee, Okla., before moving to the island. She was on the board of trustees last summer and was co-chair of the fund-raising committee. She was also involved with selected administrative duties at the museum.
Thurman is the Historical Society’s representative to the Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve Board and Friends of Admiralty Head Lighthouse. She is also a graduate of Beach Watchers Class 2001.
With her appointment there is an opening for a new member to join the board, which meets at noon on the third Wednesday of the month. If interested, contact Carol Olson at 321-6347.
