After 25 years in law enforcement, Coupeville’s town marshall is hanging up his spurs.

At least on Whidbey Island.

Lenny Marlborough is retiring on the last day of July and heading back to his roots in Louisiana, near Lake Pontchartrain. He has some job prospects on the burner there.

“There’s a chance I’ll get involved in plant security at the space center,” Marlborough said. “Another idea is working as a K-9 training manger for a private firm.”

Marlborough’s best known outside of Coupeville for his work educating the community about the effects of methamphetamine as a member of the countywide Meth Action Team. Last year, he ran unsuccessfully for the job of Island County Sheriff.

Marlborough moved to Oak Harbor with the Navy in 1979. His law enforcement career includes 14 years with the Oak Harbor Police Department and 11 years as Coupeville’s town marshal.

A formal position announcement will be issued June 1 by Coupeville.
