The six-member Clinton community group is hosting a public information meeting with representatives from Washington State Ferries and the state’s Department of Transportation.

One of the ongoing issues in Clinton is ferry traffic.

“We want Washington State Ferries to consider releasing traffic from the dock at intervals,” said Bob Effertz, president of the forum. “Right now it’s a solid flow up the hill making it almost impossible to cross Highway 525.”

Effertz said he and the other committee members attended a recent meeting of the WSF Ferry Advisory Committee in Freeland recently to express concerns about traffic and other issues related to ferries. The periodic release idea got some support from committee members and WSF officials, Effertz said.

The committee has addressed traffic and pedestrian safety issues several times over the past five years, and proposed solutions for Clinton have ranged from lighted cross walks to pedestrian bridges.

Susan Harris, WSF’s spokeswoman, will be at the Clinton Forum meeting to answer questions. Harris will also discuss the price increase for ferry commuter book.

Other items to be addressed include speed limit signage, making crosswalks on Highway 525 safer and parking fees in the commuter lots in Mukilteo.

In addition, Lynae Slynden, chairwoman of the South Whidbey Port District will present the results of a feasibility study for acquiring a beach park in at the Clinton dock

Clinton Forum has been meeting for five years to discuss issues affecting Clinton and the surrounding area. Wednesday’s meeting will be held at the Clinton Progressive Hall starting at 7 p.m.
