A 33-year-old Langley man who tried to flee from a deputy on a motorcycle was recently sent to jail.

Randall Lee Hansen pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court Nov. 8 to attempting to elude a police vehicle.

Judge Alan Hancock sentenced Hansen to 60 days in jail with 30 days converted to 240 hours of community service. Hancock also ordered him to pay $1,127 in fines and fees.

Island County Deputy D. Todd was driving on Goss Lake Road on the night of July 25 when he saw a man drive by on a motorcycle. He immediately recognized the long-haired man as Hansen, who was wanted on a warrant.

With his emergency lights and siren activated, Todd pursued Hansen. Instead of pulling over, Hansen sped up to 85 miles per hour in the 55 mph zone of East Harbor Road. Todd followed the motorcycle to the end of Ander Park Road, where Hansen steered the cycle sideways into the brush and then ran off into the woods.

The deputy chased Hansen into the heavy brush and eventually caught him. At that point both men were scratched up and bleeding from the thorny bushes.
