Doll contest is CAPF benefit

"Island Fabrics is again sponsoring the Need'l A Love Doll Contest, to benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation of Whidbey Island."

“Isn’t there something in Shakespeare about the Ides of March (March 15)? Well, you don’t need to beware of this date, but you do need to be prepared to have your entry ready for the Need’l A Love Doll Contest, sponsored by Island Fabrics of Freeland. Last year we made about 35 dolls to donate to the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, and they only have a couple left to give away, said Judith Martin, owner of the fabric store. It is really fun to make two, one to keep for the family and one to donate. The categories include whimsical, traditional, lovable critters and clothes only, as well as one for designers under age 14. The entry fee is $3, which is donated to CAPF.Island Fabrics will have pre-embroidered faces on doll bodies available for $5, which will be refunded if the completed is donated to CAPF.We also have adorable vinyl dolls, either 12-inch baby or 18-inch child dolls available for purchase for this event, or whatever, Martin said. These are reasonably priced and truly kid-approved — just ask my granddaughter.Martin noted that March 15 is also the deadline for a deposit for an Island Escape for Quilters — 40 hours of quilting in three days. The dates are March 31-April 2; cost is $250, based on double occupancy for two nights and two days. Includes all meals, even in-room sherry and chocolates. The weekend also includes a Mystery Quilt Class taught by Dawn Lease. A $125 deposit will hold your space. Call 331-4435.”
